- ➤ A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday in Marquette for a new Presque Isle Bandshell that will serve as the home of The Marquette Band. The project, supported by a donation from the Ray and Peg Hirvonen Foundation, will replace a venue built in the 1930s as the old band shell is set for demolition early this week. WZMQ 19
- ➤ United Way of Marquette County invites residents 18 and older to join the third annual Marquette Hockey Night at Berry Events Center on Saturday, Sep. 13, where players will face off against former Red Wings alumni to raise funds for youth programs and food security. - ➤ Children Trust Michigan held an auction that raised about $675K to support child abuse prevention efforts+ the funds were used to fill gaps by leveraging federal dollars, according to Executive Director Suzanne Greenberg. - ➤ The UPAWS 28th annual fundraiser 'Tee Up 4 Tails' will be held on Thursday, July 17 and the public is invited to join a golf event to support shelter operations—participants may also donate raffle baskets, silent auction items, prizes or sponsor a tee sign with their business logo. - ➤ Today, local libraries in the UP launch a free lunch program (Gather 2 Grow) with Feeding America West Michigan to offer meals for kids under 18 and disabled young adults up to 26 while school is out. Negaunee Public Library serves meals on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. while Peter White Public Library offers them on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Hardee’s of the U.P. partnered with mediaBrew Communications in June to promote becoming a Partner in Hope with St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital by airing a campaign that builds on support since 2012 and has raised over $1.7 million. - ➤ At 4:40 p.m. on June 1, a Gwinn driver with two juveniles lost control due to a suspected medical issue and struck an unoccupied home on Wright Street—police said the crash caused extensive damage and resulted in minor injuries that led to transport to UPHS-Marquette. WZMQ 19
