- ➤ The Marquette Kiwanis Club will host its 69th annual Chicken Barbeque event at Lakeview Arena on June 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., where guests can drive up for a chicken dinner + sides to support local nonprofits. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Mellon Heritage Veteran’s Outreach and Wellness Campus is seeking volunteers for its America 250 Celebration on July 2 and 3 to raise funds for veterans and first responders through wellness programs + community initiatives. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Brookridge Heights (Assisted Living and Memory Care center) in Marquette will host its annual Antique Car Show on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research while showcasing about 30 unique vehicles and live entertainment from Almost Elvis at no admission fee. - ➤ Pride Fest will take place on Saturday, June 13 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park from noon to 10:30 p.m. Organized by U.P. Rainbow Pride, the free, family-friendly event will feature live music, a drag performance at 8 p.m. and celebrate the theme "Embrace Your Nature" (selected through a poster contest). - ➤ The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library will begin its annual Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, June 9 with the theme 'Unearth A Story.' The program includes a week-long kickoff with free book picks and over 80 free events for all ages throughout summer (participants can pre-register online). The Mining Journal
- ➤ Monday evening, the NMU Board of Trustees approved a tentative five-year contract with faculty that gives pay raises and bonuses including a one-time 0.5% salary increase for full-time teachers and a $600 payment for contingent staff; remaining contract topics will be negotiated in 2027 at NMU. - ➤ Tahquamenon Falls State Park has opened a boardwalk at the Upper Falls brink featuring 1,000 feet of 8% decline ramping with five switchback landings and benches soon to have interpretive displays; the ARPA-funded project was built to protect nearby vegetation and is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. WZMQ 19

- ➤ The Michigan Department of Corrections announced that new officer recruits at five U.P. facilities will start at $28.24 per hour—an increase from $23.45—under the Safe Prisons Initiative. - ➤ Aspirus Health in upper Michigan now uses Viz.ai (an AI tool) to detect severe strokes and alert doctors so treatment can start quickly. Radiologists and ER physicians act fast on alerts, allowing patients to receive needed help sooner. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Experts and Sheriff Greg Zyburt warn that drivers, especially inexperienced teens, face increased hazards during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer on Upper Michigan roads with more large campers and heavy traffic; they urge parents to enforce graduated license laws and set a good driving example. - ➤ Negaunee High School's softball team clinched the MHSAA Division 2 district title on Saturday in Kingsford as sophomore pitcher Alyse Robar threw 14 innings of shutout ball, winning 2 to 0 over Escanaba and 3 to 0 over Kingsford to move on to regional play in Sault Ste.
