COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Marquette Active Transportation Plan is gathering public input through an online survey and public workshop to address safety concerns on busy bike paths and intersections near US-41. Community feedback will guide the design plans set to begin in December.  WZMQ 19

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marquette Rockestra puts on an all-ages benefit concert called Dancing Through the Decades at Lakeview Arena today at 7:00 p.m.—the funds raised will go to a new scholarship for local public school arts students.  Sunny 101.9
  • Marquette Regional History Center noted that several local families lost many members during World War II, with the McKinney family of Big Bay losing both a son and a daughter. Bill McKinney died in combat after the Normandy invasion and his sister Pauline, a WAC, died in a plane crash (the only loss for a WAC overseas) and they are honored on military memorials (Bill is in a cemetery in Belgium and Pauline is listed as missing in Tunisia).  The Mining Journal

  • MARESA’s Transition Program, where students ages 18 to 24 grew vegetables, herbs and houseplants in their greenhouse, began its annual plant sale on Wednesday — the sale will continue today and Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette — with all proceeds funding field trips and special events.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • The UP Land Conservancy celebrated its 2024 successes at its annual meeting at Ore Dock Brewing Co.—Lands Program Manager Clare Fastiggi said the group will work with private landowners to protect new lands and set up conservation easements in 2025.  Upper Michigan's Source
