COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Queen City Running Company will host the ReRun 5K next Wednesday as part of World Running Day, where participants meet at the store and then run from the corner of Baraga and Lakeshore at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature small rewards and a tack board for community messages. - ➤ Marquette's annual Petunia Pandemonium, celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary, will occur Friday and Saturday along Front Street from Furnace Street to Father Marquette Park, with school students planting red, white & blue flowers on Friday and volunteers beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a picnic lunch. - ➤ The Marquette-Alger RESA plant sale is now open to raise funds for student programs, with students managing most of the operation and offering garden starters, house plants, crafts, and beverages. The sale runs today through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at 414 W College Ave. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Ian Galbreath (Boy Scout Troop 372) earned the Eagle Scout Award with one palm at a Court of Honor at First United Methodist Church. His Scouting journey began in Cub Scouts and included high adventure trips and a service project for the local band where his family and mentor celebrated his achievement. The Mining Journal
- ➤ The Big 10 Sports Bar will host a benefit for Katie Gibbons on May 31 to raise funds for her stage 4 leiomyosarcoma treatment. Attendees can enjoy a spaghetti and chicken dinner, raffles and live music (1 p.m. to 7 p.m.) while showing local support for the family. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Community members are invited to the Resource Fair on Friday, June 12 at Lakeview Arena (401 E. Fair Ave.) from 2 to 5 p.m. ET, where over 70 groups offer screenings, lunch, giveaways, and SOS services; a mobile food pantry is at Berry Events Center from noon to 2 p.m. The Mining Journal

- ➤ MSU Extension will host the eight-week Marquette Conservation Stewards Program, where students will study Michigan's natural communities online with field visits to Beaver Basin Wilderness (Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore) and Yellow Dog Watershed in Big Bay starting in late August and running through October on Wednesday evenings. - ➤ The DNR announced a $1,694,000 grant plus a matching community contribution to replace four piers at Cinder Pond Marina as part of its Waterways Grant-in-Aid Program to boost boating access. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Governor Whitmer signed a bipartisan bill today forgiving school makeup days to ease penalties for schools impacted by severe storms — several counties in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula will benefit. The Mining Journal

- ➤ EGLE took soil samples Monday at an eight-acre parcel on River Street in Ishpeming Township to check its potential for middle-income housing. Officials expect a report in 3-4 weeks as part of five projects aimed at increasing local housing supply. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Negaunee High School softball finished its season Tuesday by sweeping a home doubleheader against Calumet with scores of 13-0 and 17-11. The Miners will play at noon Friday at Kingsford in the MHSAA Division 2 district tournament to advance to the championship game. The Mining Journal
