- ➤ After winter damage from early ice buildup, Cinder Pond Marina reopened this past weekend with nearly all services restored—pier 3 remains offline until its water systems are fixed—and city officials say a Michigan DNR grant will fund full dock rebuilds in 2027. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The Salvation Army held a food summit on Wednesday that brought together farmers, grocers & food pantry representatives from Marquette and Alger counties to discuss sustainable local food systems; Clancy Harrison from the Food Dignity Movement and Bill Brutto emphasized building ongoing community partnerships. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ This week, 16 members of the Great Lakes Climate Corps began summer training in Marquette, working to restore a mile-long Lake Superior coastline and plant 100,000 trees, with efforts scheduled through mid-August (including trail work in the Ottawa national forest). Upper Michigan's Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marquette County has launched a summer road construction program starting with the SIMP street improvement project on Fisher Street. The county also plans chip sealing and paving in several townships from mid-June, so drivers should expect delays and follow road safety signs. Upper Michigan's Source
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique has launched Pluvicto therapy, a new nuclear medicine treatment for advanced metastatic prostate cancer given every six weeks over an eight-month period. In partnership with Green Bay Oncology, the treatment offers care closer to home for patients who have already had hormone therapy+ chemotherapy. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Marquette County Health Department warned residents today about concentrated kratom forms, including lab-produced 7-OH, that can be up to 13 times stronger than morphine & lead to serious health risks. The products, sold online and in smoke shops, are marketed as energy boosters. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Construction has begun on Heritage Trails behind Starbucks in Marquette Township, where Wildflower Development is building 48 new homes with half as duplexes + half as single-family houses; the township is finalizing its funding deal and will hold a special meeting soon. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Bay College head men's basketball coach Matt Johnson resigned and longtime assistant Mike Cretens took over immediately + continued a winning record with two Northern Conference championships.
