BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Delmont family is putting final touches on a new U.P. campground in Little Lake that will open in six weeks with cabins, back-in sites, and 73 full RV hook-up sites plus a general store. Campers can book their stays starting August 1 while local lodging gaps are set to be filled by the new facility.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Lake Superior Community Partnership announced plans for a May Breakfast & Business event scheduled for May 30th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Mather Inn in Ishpeming—local city managers will share business updates. The Partnership will also launch the West End Business Passport program to boost foot traffic to West End businesses from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Sunny 101.9

  • On Monday, the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at NMU hosted a commemoration to share Father Jacques Marquette's legacy — films and talks by Indigenous speakers, NMU professors, and Catholic historians offered different views on his history — marking a thoughtful look at our past.  WZMQ 19

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority received the EPA Excellence in Environmental and Public Health Protection Award for its new wastewater treatment plant that is under construction. The plant will use a reverse osmosis system to remove all PFAS from wastewater and is expected to operate by the end of the year.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Designs by Nature U.P. Native Plants will host its second annual Butterfly Bonanza at MooseWood Nature Center at Presque Isle Park from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday. Owner Michelle Wietek-Stephens will explain how to create gardens that attract healthy moths and butterflies and will hold a plant sale to benefit the center.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • MDOT is closing one lane on M-35 north of Palmer today as crews perform soil borings with a temporary traffic signal managing the flow. The work will be finished by Friday, May 23 — the schedule is weather-dependent.  Upper Michigan's Source
