Forty-two teams took part in the 47th annual Big Bay Relay on Saturday from Marquette to Big Bay, covering a 26-mile course with up to five adults and seven kids per team — proceeds helped support Powell Township trails with the Noquemanon Trail Network.

Team USA earned a team spirit award while other winners posted competitive times.

On Friday afternoon, crews from U.S. Coast Guard Station Marquette, U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and Pictured Rocks’ response vessel Arrowhead rescued four passengers from a fishing vessel taking on water north of Grand Marais on Lake Superior.

Their boat was towed back to port, and the National Park Service praised the coordinated rescue—highlighting the team effort.

Marquette DDA is collaborating with the renowned Inside Out Project to create a large-scale art installation that will feature black and white portraits and stories of locals — the portraits, taken at the first farmer’s market, will measure 3x4 ft. — and will be displayed on the south-facing wall of the historic Delft Theatre during Art Week from June 23 to June 28.

UPPAA hosted its second Young Writers Storytelling Workshop Saturday at Peter White Public Library where local youth learned journalistic writing and editing to improve their storytelling + organizers said they plan to add comics and scriptwriting next year to broaden the workshop.

After coaches discovered Chatham Field vandalized last Thursday and the Alger County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation, TriCounty Little League players repaired the field in rainy conditions and will host their Tuesday game at 6:30 p.m.—community donations helped fund the repairs.
