- ➤ Travel Marquette has launched its free Brew Pass promotion to help locals and visitors explore a variety of breweries across the county and earn Marquette-themed prizes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ MSU Extension is testing farmland in the UP later this year for PFAS residues. Early sample results show low-level contamination, and interested farmers can contact Faith Cullens-Novis for testing details. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Votes from the May 5 special election for the Marquette Area Public Schools bond proposal will face a recount at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28 at Marquette Township Hall — the recount covers Marquette precincts 3 and 4, Chocolay Township precinct 2, and Marquette Township precinct 1 following a request by resident Margaret Brumm. - ➤ At the Michigan Natural Resources Commission meeting last night, commissioners approved a deer regulation package with a 5–2 vote that keeps current U.P. rules and introduces a new Lower Peninsula rule from 2027 limiting hunters to one buck. - ➤ Authorities will enforce the Click It or Ticket campaign from May 18 to May 31 to remind drivers to buckle up across the state as summer travel picks up. Officials say the seatbelt law has saved over 1,900 lives (since 2015). Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Marquette Water Department began dead-end fire hydrant flushing to check valves throughout the city—residents may notice discolored water or low pressure and should run cold water for 5 to 10 minutes until clear. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ The second paper butterfly garden celebrating health care workers opened Thursday at Trillium House in Marquette as part of a statewide art project that also provides a grant for in-depth caregiver training. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Marquette County Health Department warned residents Tuesday that kratom derivative, extract, and concentrate products carry serious risks after a recent overdose death. The office explained that while pure leaf kratom has a long history of safe use, derivatives can cause respiratory depression + free naloxone is available at designated locations. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Local gardeners in Marquette can try microgardening to maximize small spaces using quick-growing microgreens (like arugula, broccoli, radish) and herbs on windowsills or balconies. This method offers multiple harvests from limited container gardens. The Mining Journal

- ➤ UPCROSS Race Director Ben Alter has announced the Donut Ride will take place on Sunday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. at the Michigan Welcome Center in Marquette. - ➤ Marquette athletes competed in a regional track meet in Manistique on Wednesday to qualify top-four finishers for the MHSAA U.P. Finals in Kingsford on Saturday, May 30; the boys lost by one point while the girls won their meet. The Mining Journal
- ➤ On Monday in Painesdale, the Negaunee High softball team swept Jeffers with wins of 6 to 0 and 19 to 4. The Miners will host a home doubleheader against Houghton at 4:00 p.m. & a game against Hancock at 6:30 p.m. next week. The Mining Journal
