COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Negaunee Elks held a pasty sale in partnership with the Negaunee High School Robotics Team that sold 481 pasties. The team earned $1,082.25 for travel competitions and Beacon Grant funds—$74 used to create $350 worth of meals provided 50 meals to those in need from Saint Vincent De Paul’s.  The Mining Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday night, a car's engine caught fire at the roundabout in front of Walmart in Marquette Township—firefighters and police quickly stabilized the flames, and neither the driver nor her roommate was injured.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fahrner Asphalt Sealers begin crack sealing work on Marquette roads today and this may lead to traffic delays as motorists pass construction zones. The work is expected to finish within two weeks—drivers should stay alert to flagging and traffic control devices.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Anglers cast reels in Marquette’s lower harbor on Sunday for the South Shore Fishing Association’s Spring Shootout — catching salmon, lake trout, steelhead and brown trout despite choppy waters — and President Joe Hansen said the good turnout signals a strong start to the season.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Pickleball clinics hosted by Josh Kitto will begin on Monday, May 19, with an intro session at Sands Recreational Complex from 6-8 p.m., continue on Saturday, May 24 with intermediate play from 10 a.m.-noon at the same venue, and finish on Saturday, May 31 with another intro session from 10 a.m.-noon at Al Quaal tennis courts—registration is required 48 hours in advance at $35 per clinic.  The Mining Journal
