- ➤ Upper Peninsula Health Plan shared details for the 8th Annual Marquette County Community Resource Fair, which will be held Friday, June 12 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Lakeview Arena. The free event will offer over 75 community services (health screenings, food, housing, and more) for residents in need. Sunny 101.9
- ➤ Marquette County letter carriers will lead USPS's annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive this Saturday, May 9, as residents drop off bags of nonperishable food (canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal) at their mailboxes to aid local food banks such as the Salvation Army and Saint Vincent de Paul. - ➤ National Honor Society members from Ishpeming High School cleaned 10 miners’ headstones at Ishpeming Cemetery on Monday to honor victims of the Barnes-Hecker Mine Disaster ahead of its 100th anniversary, and Westwood High School students will clean additional graves next week. - ➤ Marquette’s planning commission approved the construction of a new GMC dealership on Tuesday evening to replace the current site across US-41 at 1101 W US-41. The project passed 7-0 after a year of rezoning and meeting updated standards. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Marquette Area Public Schools secured a $59.995 million bond — approved on May 5 — to upgrade safety, infrastructure, and learning environments across the district. Superintendent Zack Sedgwick thanked voters for their support and said the bond will address the schools’ most pressing needs. WZMQ 19

- ➤ Voters approved a bond of up to $1.25 million on May 5 to fund essential repairs and upgrades for the aging ice arena (its failing chiller system had put the facility at risk) in Negaunee. WZMQ 19

- ➤ NMU women’s soccer head coach Erin Egolf announced the 2026 schedule, which includes 10 home matches at the NMU Soccer Field plus a mix of non-conference, pre-season, and road games. The team will begin exhibition play with trips to Wisconsin on Aug. 20 and 22. WZMQ 19
