- ➤ Marquette County will once again hold its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive this Saturday. Residents can drop off non-perishable food items in a sturdy bag by their mailbox — mail carriers will collect and deliver the donations to local food pantries. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ United Way of Marquette County reported a $1.5M community impact in 2024 through programs focused on health, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resiliency. - ➤ Fire crews responded to a structure fire near 424 Green Garden Road off US 41 in Chocolay Township on Monday as flames and dark smoke were reported and personnel from Chocolay Police, Marquette Fire, Chocolay Fire and UPHS Emergency Services worked to control the blaze. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Marquette's Binary Crows robotics team returned from Houston after competing with many teams worldwide using their robot Mantis—built to score by throwing balls into nets and putting PVC pipes on pegs—and finished in the top ten percent; mentor Sara Hagle said experienced members guided less experienced teammates during the contest. - ➤ Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College partnered with Northern Michigan University to let students earn an associate degree before transferring to a social work program. The remote program runs through May 2028—students can work and study in their communities while using new technology and resources. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ On Monday, students attended the 50th annual Young Authors Conference at NMU's Jamrich Hall in Marquette where they participated in writing exercises, workshops, and listened to Children's Book Author Adam Rex offer advice on embracing mistakes. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MDOT began a $2.8 million project Monday, May 5 to resurface 11 miles of M-28 from US-41 to the Alger county line with crack filling, surface sealing, asphalt cold milling and pavement markings. Traffic is managed with one lane of alternating traffic and the work is set to finish in early July—supporting 27 local jobs and improving roadway safety. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ City workers began their annual sidewalk restoration project on Monday morning to fix trip hazards and improve ADA compliance in Marquette. They filled three abandoned coal bunkers with concrete at the Washington and Third Streets intersection and thanked residents for their patience with lane shifts and parking changes. - ➤ NMU Center for Rural Health is hosting the U.P. Future Health Leaders Camp from July 20 through 25 for youth interested in health care careers.
