Nearly 30 crafters gathered on Saturday at the River Rock Banquet Center for the Westend Spring Craft Show to preview summer craft sales—vendors from home businesses displayed their work.
Many of these vendors will appear at local events later this summer, setting the stage for more community craft opportunities.
Jack's Restaurant in Rapid River hosted a Chefs Challenge over the weekend when its staff and Sysco’s culinary specialist Joe Schreiter competed by serving unique breakfast and dinner dishes to registered judges—spanning six sessions in a spirited contest.
Owner Bobbi Ryan said the event was a fun, budget-friendly break and part of upcoming celebrations including the restaurant’s 82nd anniversary next week.
The Superior String Alliance will perform today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marquette with graduating seniors James Uchytil, Larson Marquardt, and Cambry Marquardson from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.—the students have long trained at SSA’s Summer Music Camp and played with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra—organizers said the event will boost support for youth in the arts.
NMU held its spring commencement ceremony Saturday—over 12,000 students graduated.
More than 1,000 students walked in the ceremony—11 earned doctoral degrees and 80 were global campus graduates.
