- ➤ The Spring Thaw Comedy Show was held on May 2 to raise funds for the annual Stand U.P. Comedy Festival, and organizers Rick Rhoades and Vincent Schultz arranged the event at Ore Dock Brewing Co. on West Spring Street in Marquette, where doors opened at 7:00 p.m., the show ran from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., and tickets cost $18 for audiences 18 and over. - ➤ The NMU board appointed longtime employee and alumnus Gavin Leach as interim president—he served as vice president for Finance and Administration for 18 years—after President Brock Tessman announced his departure in July. A listening session will be held at Reynolds Recital Hall on May 6 for the campus community to give input on the nationwide search for a permanent president. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Registration for the 906 Adventure Team opens today at noon for kids after an open house at Basecamp where families had their bikes checked & questions answered. - ➤ MDOT is spending about $116,000 to pave a gravel lot on US 41 southeast of Lake St near the Carp River Bridge and to install signs and pavement marks. - ➤ Escanaba’s only taxi company, JN Taxi, is closing this month so the Delta Area Transit Authority will hold a community meeting on May 13 at Northern Lights YMCA to learn what ride services residents need during late hours and weekends—while it works with a regional group and seeks extra funds as costs rise.
