ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • In Sands Township on Sunday, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on M-553 near Kelly Johnson Road — both drivers were trapped in their totaled cars and taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries — and neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.  The Mining Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Northern Sky Dance and Fitness in Marquette will hold a summer dance camp from June 2 through early August—owner Skylar Taavola, inspired by her past camp experiences, advises early registration as spots fill fast.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Spring Thaw Comedy Show is a fundraiser for the Stand U.P. Comedy Festival that will open today at Ore Dock Brewing Co. at 7:00 p.m. Bryan Sromalski and Vincent Schultz previewed the event on Thursday and noted that Upper Michigan native Reagan Niemela will perform while tickets are $18.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • More than 100 local dancers and community members will perform a new version of The Wizard of Oz Ballet on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette—Northern Sky Dance and Fitness has rehearsed the ballet since January to help audiences of all ages enjoy the art.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Susan Hill and Trish Kautz of Yooper Paranormal will lead monthly spooky tours at the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse to raise funds for the Marquette Maritime Museum. The first tour is scheduled for May 23 and tickets go on sale May 13.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • The Gwinn High School Quiz Bowl team came home from nationals in Chicago after a weekend contest where they ended with 41 wins and 4 losses — they won four tournaments to become state champions with an undefeated record of 32 wins and 0 losses. Team member Thomas Jenkins led the scoring — he was the fourth highest scorer in the National Small Schools Division.  WZMQ 19
