  • On Saturday, Negaunee Elks Lodge #1116 hosted an awards dinner honoring Jeremy Steele (Citizen of the Year), Al Whitford (Officer), Kevin Downey (Past Exalted Ruler), Janet LaJoie (Lady Elks) and Jaime Crabb (Elk) for community service.  The Mining Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services awarded the Healthy Kids Dental contract to Delta Dental of Michigan to serve approximately 955,000+ children on Medicaid; the five-year contract will begin Thursday, Oct. 1 and aims to improve access to essential dental care across the state.  The Mining Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Marquette Senior High School baseball split four games downstate this weekend, losing two at Traverse City Central and winning two in Charlevoix; the Sentinels host Superior Central today at 6 p.m. at Haley Memorial Field and will play additional home games this week.  The Mining Journal
  • Josie Lakosky broke multiple lacrosse records as NMU beat Saginaw Valley State 22-1 Sunday morning. The junior attacker scored 10 goals and 15 points, setting new marks in ground balls, draw controls and turnovers + nearly matching the assist record as the Wildcats improved their season record.  The Mining Journal
  • Three NMU athletes were honored with the GLIAC Commissioners' Award for winter excellence in academics & sports. Basketball graduate Dylan Kuehl, diver Kalina Ceglinski, and swimmer Leo Nolles join a rare trio recognized in one season.  The Mining Journal
