Vendor applications for Marquette’s Blueberry Festival close on April 25 and over 100 vendors have applied for one of 120 booth spaces—downtown fees are $45 per space and non-downtown fees are $125.

The contest for festival posters also closes Friday—winning artists will get $400, a free booth and their design on festival merchandise.

Marquette’s NMU Theatre & Dance senior class will showcase their talents with cabaret style performances that feature songs, monologues and scenes.

They will perform at Blackrocks Brewery on April 22 at 7:00 p.m., at Forest Roberts Theatre on April 25 at 7:30 p.m., and at Ore Dock Brewing Co. on April 27 at 7:00 p.m. to fundraise for their Senior Showcase set for Mackinac Island.

The Hiawatha Music Co-Op is accepting applications for Artists in the Round at the 45th annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival and invites artisans working in any medium to submit by 5 p.m. on May 9 online, by mail, or in person.

Today at Lakeview Arena, the Keweenaw Bay Band of Lake Superior Ojibwa launched its annual Spring Powwow with over 600 dancers showcasing handmade regalia to honor cultural traditions and connect with Marquette’s Native American community.

The event will continue through Sunday and features contests such as a drum contest with a $12,000 prize—uniting participants from across the country.

The Lake Superior Community Partnership recorded strong growth in 2024 by opening a new building, a West End Economic Hub, and hosting many ribbon cuttings that boosted local business.

LSCP will expand its business promotion programs in 2025—while warning that ongoing uncertainty may slow future growth.

The Associated Students of NMU held a power transfer event and started Cassidy Gibson’s term as president while Seanna Stine serves as vice president.

Gibson and Stine will work to keep student government open and help select NMU’s next president—continuing the award-winning work that won them the NMU Student Organization of the Year Award.

NMU music students held a recital on Friday where nine performers sang and played pieces from their lessons.

The show featured six singers, a trombone player, a violinist and a euphonium player — showing how much they are learning.

Ishpeming High School students will perform 'Legally Blonde – The Musical' next week at W.C.

Peterson Auditorium under the direction of teacher Caitlyn Palomaki with a cast of 50 students from grades 9-12. The show will run on April 24th, April 25th, and April 26th at 7:00 p.m. plus a Saturday matinee at 1:00 p.m., and tickets are available at the school office and Congress Pizza.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development awarded $1.8 million in grants to 21 groups, with 11 in Marquette County aimed at supporting rural infrastructure and local industry.

The Lakeshore Depot in Marquette received more than $65,000 (to add staff for food distribution) while Partridge Creek Farm in Ishpeming got $100,000 to expand acreage and manage drainage, and local municipalities also secured funds for water, sewer and solar projects.
