  • United Way of Marquette County will host Business After Hours on Wednesday, April 23 at Ore Dock Brewing Co. in Marquette—doors open at 5:00 p.m.—to offer locals information on nonprofit programs and volunteer opportunities.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Cove Boutique opened its new location on Third Street in downtown Marquette this past Saturday. Owner Jordan Mattarella said she is excited about the bigger space—she plans a celebration with Blackbird Boutique next door.  WZMQ 19

CRIME NEWS

  • Michigan State Police arrested a 35-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman on April 14 for charges linked to a drive-by shooting in Moorhead that killed a man on April 13 — the suspects were stopped near N. 2nd Street in Ishpeming and are now held at the Marquette County Jail awaiting extradition.  WZMQ 19

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marquette residents can visit Kognisjon Bryggeri on Saturday for the second-year Resinator metal festival where five bands will perform from 5 p.m. The brewery will launch its Resinator beer and partner with Third Street Grill—offering five special menu items while the event is open to all ages except that alcohol is for those 21 and older.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • InvestUP CEO Marty Fittante was named the first Advocate for Economic Development Advancement by the Michigan Economic Developers Association for helping attract over $130 million in funding to the U.P. + He said his team and local partners made his work possible, setting a new gold standard for the region.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NMU is hosting thousands of high school students for its biggest Career Day yet on Wednesday, April 23 at 9:00 a.m. at the Northern Center on NMU's campus in Marquette + students can win NMU swag by filling out a Career Day passport.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Marquette has postponed its spring yard waste and brush collection due to weather; crews will collect curbside brush piles from May 5 to May 9 and loose or brown-bagged leaves from May 12 to May 23. Residents needing to dispose of brush before May 5 may drop it off at the Composting Drop-off site, open Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting April 22 + details are provided for early disposal.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Today, MDOT has set a four-month detour on US-41 in Alger County, directing traffic along M-94 and M-67 while repairing two bridges over the West Branch of Whitefish River and Huber Creek. The $1.5 million project includes superstructure replacement, deck patching, and substructure repairs—detours from the West Branch site will end on Aug. 15 and overall work finishes Sept. 12.  Upper Michigan's Source
