- ➤ The NMU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America is hosting its 7th Annual Marquette Coffee Crawl today, where participants will buy tickets through NMU Ticketing and explore local coffee houses to sample top brews while all proceeds benefit the Marquette Women's Center. - ➤ After an ice storm left many U.P. families without power, crews from PUC Services Inc. of Sault Ste. Marie joined Cloverland Electric Cooperative to restore energy to over 10,000 members — outages dropped by 50% within days. - ➤ Community Dinners Feeding Marquette County will host its second annual free Easter Dinner on Sunday, April 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge, serving ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, carrots and carrot cake for dine-in or take-out; reservations can be made by calling (906) 451-4951. - ➤ A Houghton County women’s group said the county jail is unsafe and too small, and they showed plans for a new facility with 60 beds estimated to cost between $26.2 million and $33.8 million at a Calumet meeting. The county board will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m.—the group urged residents to speak up so delays do not drive costs higher. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Michigan's congressional delegation sent a letter to Governor Whitmer (D-MI) saying they are ready to support the state with federal help if needed after an ice storm left 100,000 without power in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan. State officials declared emergencies in 12 counties and began recovery efforts while lawmakers plan to request more aid if local resources fall short. WZMQ 19
- ➤ Michigan State Police trooper and dog handler Mack Schlicht was named the 2024 Marquette County law enforcement officer of the year by the local Law Enforcement Administrator’s Association.
