COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Project Jade will host its second annual golf outing on June 1 at Wawonowin Golf Club in Champion, where golfers will compete in a four-person scramble with special contests—such as a keg hole and a Vegas hole—and all proceeds will support remodeling a sensory-friendly section of the Children’s Museum.   • Calvary Lutheran Church will host Easter for Kids this Saturday with crafts, games and songs for children (ages 3 to 11) from (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.) while organizers say the event gives parents a chance to pick up Easter baskets, catch up on chores and relax.  Upper Michigan's Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bonifas Arts Center will accept submissions for its non-juried UP Cycle exhibit, which will open April 18 just in time for Earth Day. Artists will drop off upcycled art entries at the center (700 1st Avenue South) until April 14 at 11 a.m., and prizes will include cash awards and a membership (offered by judge Stella Larkin).  WZMQ 19
  • High schoolers have opened the 'What Makes You, You?' art exhibit at the Deo Gallery in the Peter White Public Library featuring drawings, sculptures, and textiles as part of the Artists in Excellence program. The exhibit runs until April 30 and an opening reception will be held on Thursday from 6 p.m.—8 p.m.  Upper Michigan's Source

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in Michigan are paying an average of $3.23 per gallon for regular gas, which is 13 cents higher than last week and marks the highest price seen so far in 2025. Prices range from $3.10 in Delta County to $3.39 in Gogebic County (AAA of Michigan reported this data).  Upper Michigan's Source

  • On Monday, NMU announced that President Brock Tessman will leave to serve as president of Montana State University in Bozeman—his last day at NMU is July 1.  WZMQ 19
  • Northern Michigan University will host the Great Lakes Cannabis Collaboration Conference on Tuesday, April 22. Assistant Professor Alex Wilson said the event will feature speakers and student presentations to offer education and collaboration on the cannabis industry.  Upper Michigan's Source
