The Women’s Center in Marquette is hosting events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month to support survivors.

The schedule includes a Denim Day Awareness Walk on April 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Marquette & multiple Coffee and An Advocate sessions including a Coffee Crawl fundraiser with NMU PRSSA.

Housing Solutions Summit on May 6 at NMU’s Northern Center and a Dinner on April 16 at NMU campus; the summit will bring leaders for housing solutions and the dinner will support growth programs + honor award winners Anne Giroux and Lake Superior Press.

The Upper Peninsula Arts and Culture Alliance received two federal grants totaling $50,000 to expand local arts programs that boost the regional economy.

The awards include $30,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts and $20,000 to study economic impacts.

Michigan gas prices dropped 10.3 cents in the past week to average $3.83 per gallon today (GasBuddy surveyed 4,913 stations), but they remain 39.3 cents above last month and 63.2 cents above last year.

The national average rose 11.8 cents to $4.06 per gallon.

A presidential proclamation now includes copper in the tariff program at a 50 percent rate and credits Highland Copper’s Copperwood Mine Project near Wakefield (a project boosting local jobs) for strengthening supply and security.

Applications for the 2026 Building Trades Summer Camp for local high school students are open online until April 30.

The five-week program runs from July 6 to August 5 in Marquette, offers hands-on training in ten trades, pays $14 per hour with a $200 bonus, and requires reliable transportation.

MDOT is set to invest its remaining $51 million from NEVI funds to expand fast EV charging after federal approval of its Fiscal Year 2026 EV Infrastructure Deployment Plan; the department will soon open a third round of applications to aid community charging projects.

NMU women’s lacrosse team defeated Concordia-St. Paul (16-7) at the Superior Dome on Saturday, led by junior attacker Josie Lakosky who scored eight goals to help the Wildcats reach nine wins quickly.
