- ➤ The seventh annual Marquette Coffee Crawl will take place on Saturday, April 12, offering three sessions from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. that guide participants through 11 coffee shops to benefit the Women's Center during Sexual Assault Awareness Month + online tickets cost $20 with the first 100 buyers receiving a 2025 tote bag. - ➤ The Women’s Center in Marquette and the Michigan State Police have partnered for ‘Purses with a Purpose’ during Sexual Assault Awareness Month to collect new or gently used purses filled with essential and comfort items for survivors. The campaign will include a denim-themed fashion show and an awareness walk on April 30 (12:00 p.m.), with purse drop-offs available at U P MSP posts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at the Women’s Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and some purses planned for distribution at the Marquette County Community Baby Shower in May. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday morning, a two-vehicle crash on US-41 near North Lake Drive in Ishpeming Township injured two people, with an 82-year-old driver and her 57-year-old passenger taken to UPHS-Marquette — the driver was cited for not stopping in a clear assured distance — according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. - ➤ Chelsea Bromley—who began Bromley’s Books as a mobile bookstore last year—will open a brick-and-mortar store at 813 N. Third St on Independent Bookstore Day, April 26, and she said her bus will continue to travel across the U.P. to bring books to rural communities including trips to Negaunee, Ishpeming and a planned summer visit to L’Anse. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Northern Michigan University picked five projects for its Green Fund from student ideas (bat boxes, bike rentals, composting, bird feeders, and pollinator boxes) and will finish them by the end of summer. NMU said the projects (which help local wildlife) are part of a bigger plan to reach its goal for lower carbon emissions. WZMQ 19
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local and federal legislators, including the mayor and city manager, toured the nearly finished Black Rock Crossing housing project by Woda Cooper Inc. — developed in partnership with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and proposed in 2023 — this morning. Developers will hold a ribbon-cutting this summer to mark the project’s progress and the importance of community collaboration. WZMQ 19
- ➤ More than 800 Michigan National Guard Soldiers and Airmen were deployed to aid communities hit by an ice storm. The units began moving from Camp Grayling on April 3rd and are working with local agencies — clearing debris, restoring power, and delivering food. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ Physician Assistant Kyle King visited TV6 on Friday morning to offer advice for dealing with allergy symptoms as the snow thaws—he suggested using Zyrtec or Flonase and recommended scheduling an appointment at Marshfield Clinic to check if the symptoms are caused by allergies rather than a cold.
