  • The Lake Superior Community Partnership is holding its Annual Dinner today at 5:30 p.m. at the NMU Northern Center—attendees will see awards given to TriMedia Environmental & Engineering and TV6’s Rick Rhoades while an online auction features items like jewelry from Jandron’s and a night at the Union Station Depot.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Marquette County Horse Club — known for its active events — will host a fundraising tack sale at UPAWS Community Room on Saturday, with members shopping from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. and others from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Between 25 and 30 vendors will sell new and used riding gear — proceeds will benefit local equine programs — and admission is $1.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Organizer Dawn Lambert announced the second Free Community Easter Dinner will be held at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge on Easter Sunday, April 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guests must reserve a table by calling (906) 451-4951 for dine-in or take-out service.  Sunny 101.9

CRIME NEWS

  • Chocolay Township Police warn residents in Marquette County that scammers are calling people claiming to be officers and that their warrants require payment with prepaid gift cards—officials emphasized they never call to ask for payment and know of no legitimate agency that does so.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marquette-Alger RESA will host the CTExtravaganza on May 7 at the Jacobetti Complex at Northern, with activities planned for 8th graders in the morning and a job fair for 11th and 12th graders in the afternoon. Director Erich Ziegler said the event will teach students about Career and Technical Education and invites local businesses to participate.  Sunny 101.9
  • Associated Students at NMU is holding its annual election for president and vice president, with candidates debating today at 6 p.m. in Jamrich (1318). NMU students will receive voting instructions on April 9 at 8 a.m. and can vote until 5 p.m. on April 11, with results coming on April 14 and the power transfer scheduled for April 17 at 6 p.m.  The North Wind

  • On Wednesday, the Superior Watershed Partnership opened a new electronic waste recycling site on North Lakeshore Boulevard in Marquette that is open every Wednesday from 12 to 4 p.m. to accept most electronics such as TVs + game consoles, though it does not take household items like microwaves or vacuums.  WZMQ 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marquette officials are exploring a sale of Lakeview Arena to fund needed maintenance—Mayor Jessica Hanley said a local partner’s proposal is under review because deed restrictions require the property to remain for public ice and related activities. The City Commission will host a work session today at 5:15 p.m. at the Citizen’s Forum in the arena to gather public input.  The Mining Journal
