- ➤ Trout Unlimited’s Fred Waara chapter will host the Upper Peninsula Fly Fishing Film Festival on Saturday at the Northern Center on NMU’s Campus. The festival will feature 90 minutes of short films about fly fishing in Upper Michigan — it is a fundraiser to support conservation and education efforts. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ NMU will hold a public event on Friday, April 4th at 7:30 p.m. in Jamrich Hall to mark the 30th anniversary of the original production 'Haywire' about an 1880s logging camp that was performed at the Kennedy Center’s American College Theatre Festival—featuring scenes from the musical and appearances by the creators and alumni as part of a fundraiser for NMU students competing in regional showcases. - ➤ UP Michigan Works! has received two state grants totaling about $1.4M to add 209 apprenticeship positions in the next year—$575k to register 87 apprentices and $800k to enroll 122 apprentices. The funding will help local businesses offset costs when starting new apprenticeship programs. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ AAA of Michigan reports that gas prices dropped 7 cents since last week so drivers now pay an average of $3.10 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. The rate is 12 cents higher than a month ago yet 52 cents lower than a year ago — the national average is 6 cents more than the state rate. Upper Michigan's Source
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A recent Public Service Commission report said the U.P. cut air pollution by growing wind and solar projects supported by tax credits and local high costs for out-of-state power. Two solar projects in Dickinson and Marquette counties will boost renewable energy by over 70% if finished by 2028+ they may help slow rising electricity bills. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Absentee ballots are now available for the May 6 election (for voters unable to go to polling places) in Marquette County, and applications can be submitted in person, by mail, or by email until May 2 at 5 p.m. The ballot includes two proposals (a millage renewal for Richmond Township and a bond proposal for Gwinn Area Community Schools).
