BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chicago Beefs, a Marquette restaurant that opened last July, will close its location at the masonic at the end of March because it has struggled with rent, investor payments and low street access — owner Mike Glenn said he plans to open a new restaurant on Third Street in the future — as he works to maintain service in our local market.  WZMQ 19

  • Today through March 30, Ore Dock Brewing Company in downtown Marquette hosts Geoff & Jon’s Record Show featuring classic and new vinyl records, live music, a cartoon screening, and pop culture trivia—Bearded Jon Teichman said the weekend event is open to all and held in the 2nd floor Community Room.  Sunny 101.9

  • On March 26th, 2025, Martin Renaldi, an NMU assistant professor and former student, discussed the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program on Mark — Walt in the Morning and shared his personal background. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marquette Police have upgraded their equipment with a new, powerful snowmobile—designed to navigate deep snow and off-road trails while helping officers monitor safe trail use. The department also received a trailer funded by local credit unions and the Kaufman Foundation to enhance their patrol capabilities.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The U.P. State Fair Board of Authority has named four new members — Matt Jensen, Linda Talsma, Craig Kent, and John King—to coordinate the fair’s services. The board, which has represented 15 Upper Peninsula counties and the Hannahville Tribe since 2010 after state funding ended, will oversee the fair scheduled for August 11 through 17 at the fairgrounds in Escanaba.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel urged 23andMe account holders to delete sensitive genetic data after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 26th — the firm is operating as usual, though customers face long wait times to complete deletion requests.   • Functional Behavioral Services will host a clinician self-care summit on April 11 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Marquette Township Community Center where clinicians can focus on self-care through movement, meditation and mindfulness exercises—attendees will enjoy music, snacks and gifts to support their wellness.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Erin Dillon, an athletic trainer at Active’s Ishpeming clinic, spoke on Mark and Walt in the Morning on March 25 as she explained how athletic trainers provide hands-on support to athletes in area schools during National Athletic Training Month — she urged anyone interested in the field to contact her at Active Physical Therapy.  Sunny 101.9
