COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Geoff and Jon’s Record Show & Sale is set to take place this Friday and Saturday at Blackrocks Brewery on 3rd Street; organizers say the trimmed-down event will feature thousands of vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes for collectors.  Sunny 101.9
  • The Marquette Board of Light & Power approved that the city may use 10 acres for a new dog park, which is expected to open next summer. Marquette Dog Park Friends meets twice a month at Peter White Public Library to raise funds for a fence — a needed upgrade for the park.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Moonlight Meadows will host a pop-up drive-thru Easter dinner at Gravedoni’s on Sunday, April 5 in Negaunee. Pick-up is from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and customers can order online with protein (BBQ glazed ham or brisket), chosen sides, and peach cobbler for dessert.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • United Way of Marquette County begins the annual egg hunt Monday, March 30, hiding eggs with clues posted twice daily where families win gift baskets (from local sponsors). The event ends Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Presque Isle.  WZMQ 19
  • The American Legion post at 700 W. Bluff St. is hosting a fish fry this Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. that serves white fish, cod, shrimp, or chicken strips with baked potato or french fries + cole slaw, with takeout orders starting at 3:30 p.m.  The Mining Journal
  • United Way of Marquette County and Innovate Marquette are piloting an app today to help people find food assistance. The online tool connects local organizations, volunteers & resources, offering recipes and coordinating extra support during emergencies.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Frosty Treats opened today — a crowd gathered to taste the season’s first ice cream as the shop will operate from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Locals like Kathyn Naglekirk and her son Teddy enjoyed a treat and plan to return.  Upper Michigan's Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ore Dock Brewing Co.'s Festival of the Angry Bear will return for its 12th year on Friday, April 10, when Spring St. will close for a street festival with live music, craft beers, food trucks, and more (pre-events include the Angry Bear Pre-Pawty, a flower crown workshop, and a community run).  The Mining Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Marquette Area Public Schools will use a $2,000 grant from the Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan Agent Charitable Fund to fight food insecurity by supporting the JJ Packs Program & fresh fruit in weekend packs for students; families should contact their school counselor. The grant will be presented at 9 a.m. Friday, March 27 at St. Michael’s Church, 401 W. Kaye St.  The Mining Journal
  • Marquette Area Public Schools urges residents to vote on May 5 for a $59.995M bond proposal that will upgrade school facilities and enhance safety. In-person absentee ballots begin tomorrow, March 26, and early voting is held at the Peter White Public Library (217 N. Front St.) from April 30 to May 2.  The Mining Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in Marquette has opened the application process for the Fiscal Year 2026 Michigan Veterans Nonprofit Improvement Grant Program to strengthen veteran facilities. Eligible nonprofits must apply by 5 p.m. April 30 (awards are anticipated May 14).  The Mining Journal
  • Cinder Pond Marina in Marquette suffered extensive damage from winter storms that delayed its opening for the 2026 season. City staff are working with the dock manufacturer and slip holders must renew their slips by April 15 & receive refunds if repairs extend.  The Mining Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northern Michigan men's basketball standout Dylan Kuehl was named a D2CCA First Team All-American after finishing his career with 2,197 points, earning GLIAC and regional honors and leading his team to a 27-6 record (he is the first Wildcat with national recognition) while maintaining a 3.65 GPA.  WZMQ 19
  • The review outlines early baseball in the UP, noting that games featured underhand pitching and high scores and attracted local fans who halted mining work to watch matches. A tradition started in 1954 with a Potato Auction to raise funds for Little League continues to energize the community.  The Mining Journal
