COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Marquette County will launch its 11th City-Wide Egg Hunt on March 30 by hiding 12 eggs around town with Facebook clues, while a Kids Easter Egg Hunt at Presque Isle on April 4 will feature over 7,000 eggs and snacks with arrivals by 10:30 a.m.  The Mining Journal
  • Temple Beth Sholom + the Marquette Interfaith Forum will host a Holocaust Remembrance Service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 14 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 201 E. Ridge St. to honor the genocide endured by the Jewish people, featuring a keynote by Annette Gendler.  The Mining Journal
  • The Upper Michigan Chapter of Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly is hosting Easter dinners for seniors in Hancock and nearby counties and needs volunteers, including delivery drivers, plus donations of homemade baked goods and full hams; seniors can reserve meals through March 30.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Bates Bikes will host its second annual tent sale from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29 in Marquette & it will feature Class 1, 2, & 3 rated e-bikes available with discounts, free accessories, and test rides as new rules on usage are introduced.  WZMQ 19

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan now average $3.92 per gallon, the highest since summer 2023 — with Marquette, Ann Arbor, and Jackson reporting rates of $3.95 while other areas see lower costs. AAA reported a 33-cent jump from last week that now pushes the cost of a full tank to about $59.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NMU hosted the Wildpup event at its library to ease student stress through interactions with therapy dogs and a cat; the initiative began after COVID. NMU Nursing Associate Professor Michelle Andriacchi noted many students found comfort during tough academic days.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Registration is open for the free 2026 Central U.P. Farm to School Institute. The professional development event lasts two days and will be held May 19-20 in downtown Ishpeming at the Mather Inn and nearby PCF sites, offering educators, foodservice managers, farmers, and community partners resources on local food education.  The Mining Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After last week’s record-setting blizzard, Marquette County transitioned from storm response to cleanup while not seeking a state disaster declaration. County partners + including 211 are offering support with private snow removal and safe vent access for elderly and special needs residents.  The Mining Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aspirus Health promotes immune checkpoint inhibitors as a cancer treatment that works best when paired with chemo and radiation. The IV therapy boosts T-cells to detect cancers including bladder, lung, head and neck, and triple-negative breast.  Upper Michigan's Source

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Marquette’s Superior Dome will host the 31st U.P. Boat, Sport and RV Show on Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with 65 vendors showcasing pontoon boats, e-bikes, and motors as the event celebrates a historic community tradition spanning generations.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • The Ishpeming Girls' Basketball team won the state title over Portland St. Patrick on Monday, Mar. 23 in a close contest that highlighted their skill and teamwork.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Tech women’s tennis won 5-2 over Saginaw Valley State at Gates Tennis Center on Saturday, boosting their record to 8-3 and marking a five-match win streak. The team will compete at Purdue Northwest on Friday and at Roosevelt on Saturday.  WZMQ 19
