  • Mike Bradford and Chad Cole with the volunteer-based Marquette Area Fourth of July Fireworks Committee are asking community members for donations to fund the celebration on 4th of July that boosts local revenue.   • This spring, ORIAN will host the first U.P. Outdoor Summit where outdoor enthusiasts and community leaders meet for keynote presentations, innovation demos and discussions on preserving our environment and boosting local outdoor recreation. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan hold steady at an average of $3.04 per gallon for regular unleaded gas—3 cents lower than last month and 55 cents lower than last year. Dickinson County had the lowest price at $2.91 while Mackinac County topped at $3.29—and the national average fell to $3.08 per gallon.  Upper Michigan's Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A portion of Peter White Drive on Presque Isle is closed to car and bike traffic to allow the blue spotted salamander migration that began Monday night. Volunteers from the Superior Watershed Partnership—along with city staff and NMU students—will manage the road until May 15 and record observations of the crossing salamanders.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the public will get a first look at Veridia Group's plan to build 40 townhomes on three parking lots on the south side of W. Magnetic Street between Lee and Fourth in Marquette. The planning commission meeting will decide if the project will go to the city commission for further review.  Upper Michigan's Source
