Fishermen camped at Lake Gogebic on Saturday in Marenisco for the 43rd Gogebic Lodge Ice Fishing Derby, where about 140 competitors fished in different categories to win $1,000 prizes each.
The long-running derby remains a cherished winter event.

The Invasive Species Control Coalition of Watersmeet held its 3rd annual Musky Expo on Saturday at Watersmeet, featuring over 25 vendors to showcase tackle and boats while raising awareness about keeping lakes clean.
President Rachel Wheeler stressed the mission to prevent invasive species — protecting local waters for future fishing.
🏈 Sports
NMU women’s basketball lost 66 to 38 to Grand Valley State in the GLIAC semifinal on Saturday in Allendale.
The Wildcats will learn if they make the NCAA Division Two Tournament tonight at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Northern Michigan men’s basketball team advanced to today’s GLIAC Championship game after beating Lake Superior State by a score of 79 to 67 in the semifinal at Vandament Arena.
The Wildcats will face Grand Valley State at 2 p.m. today, showing teamwork + determination.
