  • Saturday, the Rotary Club of Ishpeming held its 41st fundraiser, 'Sports FAN-demonium,' attracting over 100 attendees who enjoyed raffles & auctions, dinner, drinks and a live performance by comedian Brett Walkow while the club offered a Dominican Republic trip as a prize to support local projects.  Upper Michigan's Source

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A total lunar eclipse will show a blood-red moon Tuesday morning across North America, including our skies here in Marquette. The eclipse’s total stage lasts about one hour and needs clear skies for viewers to see the full effect.  The Mining Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • The No. 16 Michigan Tech men’s basketball team beat Roosevelt 99-72 on Senior Day as Ty Fernholz set a record with 12 3-pointers for a career-high 36 and helped secure their second-straight GLIAC regular season title; the team will host Davenport in the GLIAC Tournament opener next Wednesday at SDC Gymnasium.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Tech women’s basketball team closed its regular season with a 70+51 win over Roosevelt at the SDC Gymnasium on Saturday; three players scored in double figures and the Huskies will face NMU for the GLIAC Quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.  WZMQ 19
  • On Saturday, mushers began the 120-mile CopperDog 150 race from Eagle Harbor to Copper Harbor while local fans watched the CopperPull weight challenge in Laurium — a boost for neighborhoods as visitors stirred local business activity.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Wildcats earned the No. 1 seed in the GLIAC Tournament with a 98-75 win over the Parkside Rangers yesterday at Vandament Arena — they shared the season title with Michigan Tech and will host Ferris State on Wednesday, Mar. 4, at 7:30 p.m.  WZMQ 19
  • Northern Michigan University’s men’s nordic ski team swept the podium on the final day of the NCAA Regionals in Duluth (a close contest) when redshirt junior Adrik Kraftson claimed gold, senior Luke Fricker took silver, and senior Jonathan Clarke earned bronze.  WZMQ 19
  • At the NCAA Regionals in Duluth, NMU’s Junior Henriette Nilssen claimed gold in the women’s 20k mass start in a photo finish, while Michigan Tech’s Julia Junkkala earned bronze — the Wildcats will compete at the NCAA Championships on March 12 and 14 at Soldier Hollow in Utah.  WZMQ 19
