COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese of Marquette is inviting nominations for its service award to honor lifetime dedication by clergy and laypeople (nominations close May 1).  The Mining Journal
  • On Feb. 25, 2026, the 33rd Trenary Outhouse Classic saw locals decorate portable toilets for a high-speed race & fundraiser celebrating the America 250 theme that honors 250 years of tradition, uniting the community for projects and fun.  WZMQ 19
  • Marquette police are still searching for missing NMU student Trenton Massey, who was last seen stumbling toward a dock Sunday morning at 3:24 a.m. Numerous searchers, including more than 350 students, checked a hole in the ice south of town near Genesee and Altamont Streets.  WZMQ 19

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The roof of Westwood Mall collapsed today in Marquette Township — damaging several stores including The Bargain Barn and prompting Fire Rescue to respond.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Ishpeming VFW’s roof collapsed early Wednesday morning, triggering an active gas leak+ emergency responders set a safety perimeter, evacuated nearby residents, and blocked downtown streets for utility work.  Upper Michigan's Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Marquette Regional History Center gave four awards to local figures including Phyllis Wong and Blaine Betts to honor efforts in preserving our region's history. The event highlighted shared pride in our local heritage—an ongoing celebration of community commitment.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The Marquette Regional History Center unveiled The U.P. through 250 Artifacts on Wednesday, Feb. 25, featuring donated clothing, flags+ artwork and other pieces that trace local ties to national events. The exhibit will remain on view through January.  WZMQ 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Superior Health Foundation announced its annual AED Program for nonprofits by distributing 32 defibrillators to groups like martial arts studios, school districts, transit authorities, and fire departments across 11 counties, and each recipient will receive AED training from Superior Life Services. Applications closed five days after Feb. 1.  The Mining Journal
  • Marquette County Medical Care Facility holds a job fair today from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at its facility, offering roles such as Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Resident Care Aides with on-call positions available.  Upper Michigan's Source
