COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Peter White Public Library hosted its fifth Prom Dress Swap for high school students (grades 9-12) who picked up free gowns as dress prices rise. Teen Services Coordinator Amanda Pierce said the event offered an affordable option and welcomed donations during library hours.  Upper Michigan's Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 300 middle and high school students gathered at NMU’s Seaborg Center for the annual UP Regional Science Olympiad. The event featured competitions in social, physical, engineering & natural sciences, and winners will be announced later this month for a chance to compete in the State Olympiad.  Upper Michigan's Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Negaunee hosted Dr. Wes Youngberg for Diabetes Undone (a six‐week program) that teaches how to reverse type 2 diabetes by addressing its root causes so that patients need less medication; the program will discuss risks such as heart disease, nerve damage and dementia.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northern Michigan Wildcats lost 80—68 to Ferris State at Jim Wink Arena on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs launched an 11—0 run late in the game to secure the win; the Wildcats will host a GLIAC quarterfinal on March 4.  WZMQ 19
  • Windy conditions delayed jump attempts at Pine Mountain Ski Jump in Iron Mountain as 10,000 fans gathered for the FIS Continental Cup. Forty-one jumpers from nine countries await a 2 p.m. event while locals enjoy a unique fan-driven atmosphere (and camaraderie).  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Northern Michigan's women's wrestling team earned three automatic NCAA Championship bids after finishing fourth at a regional qualifier in Tiffin, Ohio this weekend. Caltagirone, Bassino and Miles will compete on March 6-7 in Coralville, Iowa.  WZMQ 19
  • On Saturday, NMU men’s basketball beat Ferris State 75-53, with Dylan Kuehl scoring 20 points and surpassing 2,000 career points (he is only the fourth Wildcat to do so). The team will host Roosevelt on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m.  WZMQ 19
