COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AAA warns that heavy winter salt is causing rust to form under vehicles in Marquette and advises drivers to wash their cars every two weeks+ this routine helps avoid costly damage not covered by insurance.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Rotary Club of Marquette Harbor is offering grants up to $15,000 to tax exempt organizations in Marquette County, prioritizing youth projects while reviewing others based on available funds. Submit applications by March 13; funding comes from the club’s Fish Boil in June and Harbor Fest in August (details online).  The Mining Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Marquette Public Art Commission approved a new landscape art design for Lions Lakeside Park as part of the future City Cultural Trailhead at 501 S. Front St. Public comment will be accepted at a special meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Peter White Public Library (217 N. Front St) until noon Thursday, March 5.  The Mining Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • As of 5:11 p.m. Friday, 2,021 people lost power in Marquette County, with outages mainly in Chocolay Township, Harvey and Skandia Township (Marquette Board of Light and Power reported over 5% of customers affected).  Upper Michigan's Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • The West End Health Foundation will begin accepting applications for its 2026 Spring Capital Grant cycle on Feb. 27 in Ishpeming. Local organizations in the West End can receive up to $50,000 for projects like buying equipment or upgrading facilities if they apply online by April 1.  The Mining Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Vango’s in Marquette held its first Fish Fry Friday of Lent yesterday, serving huge plates of fried fish despite slower business from chilly weather. Regular customers Bud and Chrys enjoyed generous portions while others opted for Greek food.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • Five NMU women wrestlers advanced into tomorrow’s NCAA Regional 4 semifinal round at Tiffin, Ohio after competing on Friday. Their wins include tech falls + pins as the team continues in the highly competitive qualifier.  WZMQ 19
  • After windy conditions forced a delay on Friday, the FIS Continental Cup ski jumping in Iron Mountain will resume today around 8:30 a.m. with 41 jumpers from nine countries and about 10,000 fans expected in attendance.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Westwood High School won the girls and X team championships at River Rock Lanes in Ishpeming Saturday. Marquette County bowlers claimed every singles finalist spot and high school regionals (MHSAA) are scheduled for later this weekend.  The Mining Journal
  • Marquette’s Sentinel swimmers won against rival teams last week as the girls beat Houghton 104-79 and the boys won 104-69 against the Gremlins, setting the stage for the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals at the local pool today (diving this afternoon and swimming events later).  The Mining Journal
