COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Kognisjon Bryggeri and UPAWS have teamed up to launch a special beer benefiting the local shelter. The brewery debuts 'Hazel’s Love Potion,' a chocolate stout, tomorrow from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at its 3rd Street venue (live music and free chocolate desserts will be offered).  Sunny 101.9
  • Trenary Toast Cafe partnered with NMU on Friday to host the annual Warm-Up Party during the UP200 kickoff, offering free hot chocolate, coffee and over 1,000 cinnamon rolls downtown. Guests met new NMU President Dr. Chris Olsen (and university mascot Wildcat Willy) at this popular community event.  WZMQ 19

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Scott W. Knaffla, a wealth advisor with Flourish Financial Partners, qualified for the Circle of Success annual recognition program and will be honored in 2026 — a distinction earned as one of the top advisors with 18 years at Ameriprise Financial.  The Mining Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bay College hosts Lunchtime Live! St. Paddy’s Day Edition on Tuesday, March 17. The event features live traditional music from local band Failte + festive lunch specials from Wiles Food Services.  The Mining Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Marquette Alger RESA on Friday, school board members met face-to-face with state legislators to discuss school funding issues, including concerns over shifts in budgeting away from K-12 to higher education; both sides agreed to improve communication for local student success.  Upper Michigan's Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State political figures visited Marquette during the 2026 UP200 weekend event to support the sled dog race. Representatives Ed McBroom, Karl Bohnak and Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow attended (showing local pride).  WZMQ 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Veterans enrolled in Early Alert from the Upper Peninsula + Northern Wisconsin are offered free admission to the FIS Continental Cup Ski Jump hosted by the Kiwanis Ski Club from Feb. 20 to 22 in Iron Mountain. The program supports wellness via regular check-ins and community outreach.  The Mining Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new mixed use building is set to open at 401 W. Washington St. after a groundbreaking ceremony held Friday, thanks to a $1.5 million state grant & economic development strategy. The project will offer 11 residential spaces and is expected to finish late this year or early in 2027.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Mount Bohemia faces uncertainty as purchase talks for leased land break down; the resort owns 300 acres and leases 775 acres from The Nature Conservancy and had planned to finalize a deal last December until a January proposal revealed another buyer is being considered.  Upper Michigan's Source
