COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brookridge Heights held its 3rd annual Friendship and Flowers event Wednesday, letting residents choose carnations from Lutey's Flower Shop as part of its 12-part Making Memories series (a moment to build connections and brighten daily routines).  Upper Michigan's Source
  • NMU Cosmetology Department is accepting donations of food, clothing, hats, gloves, and scarves to support the Marquette Women’s Center – donors receive a free manicure or style excluding chemical services. Donations will be accepted until Feb. 19.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • The American Legion post at 700 W. Bluff St. will host a fish fry tomorrow from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. offering white fish, cod, shrimp and chicken strips with a choice of baked potato or french fries, and the Legion Auxiliary will hold a bake sale during the event.   • Northern Michigan University is hosting its Streetcar Named Desire Dinner & a Show on Friday, Feb. 20. Guests will enjoy a three-course dinner followed by a performance in the James Panowski Black Box Theatre with limited seating available.  Sunny 101.9

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An ice formation nicknamed the 'ice monster' was seen at Presque Isle in Marquette today from a safe distance, with photographer Ron Mattson capturing the odd natural display.  The Mining Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team held its annual ice rescue training yesterday in Negaunee. The drill used dry suits and constant tethering — ensuring safety during simulated emergencies on frozen lakes.  WZMQ 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gwinn residents must boil water until further notice due to a communication issue with the water system, Forsyth Township said — officials are sampling water and will update the community via TV6 and social media.  Upper Michigan's Source

SPORTS NEWS

  • TV6 will livestream the UP200 race live Friday from 6:30 p.m. on its website and the Fox UP mobile app, with commentary from Sports Director Kevin McNulty and sports contributor Dave Ellis as teams leave the starting line.  Upper Michigan's Source
