- ➤ Average gasoline prices in Michigan fell 8.5 cents per gallon this week to $2.78 today (according to GasBuddy data) and ranged from $2.26 to $4.11 across 4,913 stations. Nationally, gasoline prices slightly increased while nearby areas like Grand Rapids saw lower prices. The Mining Journal

- ➤ On Jan. 10, 2026, Cory Schober, a physical therapy assistant at Active Physical Therapy in Marquette, explained the causes, symptoms and treatment for golfer's elbow on Mark + Walt in the Morning, providing listeners with key facts about the condition. Sunny 101.9
- ➤ A Michigan State University study showed seat belt use rates increased to 93.2% in 2025 during May and June observations at 200 locations, with highest rates among SUVs and lower rates among pickup drivers (females buckled up 95.3% compared to 91.7% for males). Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ Physician Assistant Kyle King from Marshfield Clinic Health System offered heart health advice Tuesday during American Heart Month on TV6 Morning News. He stressed that walking laps around the Superior Dome or in nearby offices could help keep hearts healthy. Upper Michigan's Source
- ➤ On Saturday, March 14 from 10 a.m. to noon, The Cedar Tree Institute will hold an introductory Tai Chi workshop led by Jon and Diana Magnuson at Morgan Chapel, 201 E. Ridge St., Marquette. A $25 donation covers a light brunch + funds cedar tree planting. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Freshman Matteo Ballardin earned a silver medal in the 200 breast and set two GLIAC records at the championships before being named GLIAC Swimmer of the Year. His performance helped NMU finish third behind Wayne State & Grand Valley. WZMQ 19
- ➤ NMU’s alpine teams dominated at Spirit Mountain, with men winning five of six podium spots and women sweeping the top finishes last weekend. The teams will now prepare for the USCSA Regional Championships at Marquette Mountain on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15 (the final qualifier before nationals). WZMQ 19
- ➤ NMU’s Kalina Ceglinski earned GLIAC Female Diver of the Year honors after winning gold in the 1-meter diving final with a score of 436.35 at the championships in Holland (Mich). The Wildcats finished second overall with 708 points after the team also claimed silver in the 400 free relay. WZMQ 19
- ➤ NMU women's swim team earned silver and bronze in the 100 back and bronze in the 800 free relay at the GLIAC Championships, finishing behind Grand Valley. Other swimmers posted top times, boosting NMU's medal count (final day Feb. 9). WZMQ 19
- ➤ The UPSSA Basketball Polls show Westwood Boys, Forest Park Boys, and Ishpeming Girls reaching the top spots in their divisions.
