NMU Women’s Track and Field team competed on Saturday at the W-C-W Meet, winning five events and earning nine podium finishes to finish second with 112.5 points.

The team set personal records in shot put (12.60 m) and triple jump (11.34 m) during the meet.

The LSSU Lakers edged the NMU Wildcats 71-68 at Vandament Arena on Saturday after key 13-0 and 15-0 runs helped secure the win and handed NMU its first home loss of the season.

Several players stepped up, with Nino Carter-Smith scoring 18 points.

NMU held its second-place finish – with 336 points and a bronze in the 400 medley relay – at the GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships on day two.

Competitions continue tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. ET and finals at 5:30 p.m. ET.

No. 20 MTU hockey won its 20th season win with a 4-3 triumph over Augustana at Winter Carnival Saturday night in Houghton—Jack Anderson scored the game-winning goal 10:33 into the third period and was named MVP.

Northern Michigan University’s men’s basketball team outscored Saginaw Valley State 83-61 at Vandament Arena on Thursday — a key win that keeps their conference record at 11-2 — and they will host Lake State at 3 p.m. today.

The NMU Wildcats women defeated LSSU 76-49 Saturday at Vandament Arena — led by Newcomer’s 25 points and Whitehouse’s 15.

The team now stands at 20-4 and will face Wayne State on Feb. 12 and Purdue Northwest on Feb. 14.

NMU alpine ski teams started strong today at USCSA Spirit Mountain in Minnesota as the men swept the podium in the giant slalom while the women earned an individual win in the slalom; the teams will switch events tomorrow.
