- ➤ Marquette book clubs are gaining popularity this winter as readers convene at Bromley’s Books (Pages and Pies meets at Peace Pie Company) and at Ore Dock Brewing and the Regional History Center; scheduled gatherings continue regularly this month. The Mining Journal
- ➤ 906 Adventure Team is launching an Adventure Team Hike starting Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. at Tourist Park; volunteer registration is open online until the end of April and costs $150 for the summer season (volunteers should be able to hike or bike). Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ IronArts Theatre and Peter White Public Library will present Stephen King’s 'Misery' at 6 p.m. Feb. 16-18 at the library, with $5 tickets available to support local programming + marking a new arts collaboration. The Mining Journal
- ➤ Ishpeming celebrated 100 years of ski jumping on Wednesday night when the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame held a tribute event — featuring a screening of Michigan’s Skiing Legacy and honoring local pioneers in organized skiing. - ➤ Northern Michigan University released its Fall 2025 dean’s list with names of students who earned a 4.00 GPA and listed those with GPAs between 3.50 and 3.99. The list covers campuses including Baraga and Marquette, recognizing hard work and academic excellence. The Mining Journal
- ➤ The Upper Peninsula Construction Council opened applications for the Construction Connect U.P. program, letting high school juniors in Marquette, Iron Mountain and Escanaba gain trade experience with HVAC and contractors during their senior year; eligible students (in a certified CTE program with reliable transport) must apply by March 31. - ➤ The Michigan DNR is investigating a rise in cougar sightings since 2008 with a historic reproduction reported in 2025. Wildlife biologists urge locals to report any sightings & keep a safe distance as more trail cameras capture the animals across the Upper Peninsula. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ City crews cleared 25 miles of snowbanks after January’s 61.9 inches of snow—well above average—by working overtime to keep roads, sidewalks and bike paths open using sites on Hebard Court and Pioneer Road; they will next focus on local streets and prepare drains for the melt. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Health & Human Services announced a $320,000 grant from Delta Dental Foundation to expand SEAL! Michigan by adding two local health departments to offer more dental screenings, sealants, and education to children during school hours. The Mining Journal
