Olympic gold medalist Nick Baumgartner visited his hometown of Iron River today before heading to his fifth Winter Olympics.
Local residents, family, and fans gathered at Ski Brule (where he learned to ski as a child) to cheer him on and celebrate his journey.
NMU hosted Lake Superior State for its senior day home meet at the PEIF Pool today, and the Wildcats won multiple swimming and diving events with standout gold medals from diver Kalina Ceglinski (3-meter and 1-meter).
Northern Michigan beat Wayne State 83 to 62 on Saturday (Jan.
24) in a home game at Marquette, advancing to an 18 to 2 record. Jackson Dudek led with 21 points, and the Wildcats will face road games at Grand Valley State on Jan. 29 and Davenport on Jan. 31.
NMU women’s basketball hit a season-high 15 three-pointers to win 91-71 over Wayne State at Vandament Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats, led by Sarah Newcomer & Jacy Weisbrod, swept the weekend and will play Grand Valley State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Davenport on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the 27th Noquemanon Ski Marathon started at 10 a.m. at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming, as some races were delayed by an hour (wind chills reached negative 25) before finishing at the Superior Dome in Marquette.
