  • AAA advises drivers to test batteries older than three years and turn off accessories to prevent cold-induced battery failure, warn spokesperson Adrienne Woodland. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Vendor spaces remain available for the annual Builders Show from March 6th through 8th at the Superior Dome. Sarah Foster of the Home Builders Association of the U.P. said the event will offer attendees a chance to explore dozens of professional exhibitors.  Sunny 101.9

CULTURE NEWS

  • Influencers Josh and Jase visited Marquette on Thursday — meeting fans at Delft Bistro where locals praised the duo's warm welcome. They drove in from across the Atlantic and noted their impromptu trip as they continued exploring the U.P.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Northern Michigan University will host a jazz and art gala on Feb. 19 at the Northern Center to raise funds for a Starlink System that helps refugee students attend virtual classes, with live music by 906 Jazz and art auctions from refugees in Malawi.  Upper Michigan's Source
  • Local storytellers Jack Deo and Jim Koski hosted MRHC's sold-out Legends and Lore fundraiser at Kaufman Auditorium on Thursday evening with over 800 attendees, supporting the museum's century-long role in sharing Marquette's rich history. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The 2026 Education Preparation Provider Collaboration has partnered with five Michigan universities to ease the teacher shortage by expanding flexible pathways for non-traditional students in high need regions; educators say removing barriers is key to increasing access to the profession.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Superior Aesthetics in Marquette hosted a launch event on Thursday to introduce its Helix Resurfacing Laser treatment (which promotes scar repair and skin tightening by gently damaging the skin) and the center is now accepting bookings with full medical history reviews.  Upper Michigan's Source

  • Iron River's Nick Baumgartner qualified for his fifth Winter Olympic Games (Snowboard Cross) on Thursday, Jan. 22 and now prepares to join top athletes when the competition begins.  WZMQ 19
  • Northern Michigan fought back on Thursday night at Vandament Arena to beat Purdue Northwest 82—75, led by Dylan Kuehl’s 28 points; the Wildcats will face Wayne State Saturday, Jan. 24.  WZMQ 19
  • The NMU Wildcats defeated Purdue Northwest 94 – 54 on Thursday night at Vandament Arena, with Sydney Whitehouse scoring a career high 21 points. The Wildcats are set to meet Wayne State Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. as they improve to a 7 – 2 conference record.  WZMQ 19
  • Michigan Tech's women's basketball team lost 86-83 to Wayne State at SDC Gymnasium on Thursday. Three starters (Mason, Standfest and Timms) scored 62 points combined while the Huskies will face Purdue Northwest at noon Saturday.  WZMQ 19
