- ➤ Marquette County Sheriff Gregory Zyburt reminded snowmobilers today to ride safely on local trails after several accidents and one fatality this winter, urging riders to remain sober, use proper equipment, and drive at reduced speeds (to protect families). WZMQ 19
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Talon Metals Corporation took over Eagle Mine + Humboldt Mill in early January from Lundin Mining to boost local ore exploration and protect over 500 jobs. The new management links these facilities with Talon's nickel mining project in Tamarack, Minnesota. WZMQ 19
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Marquette Regional History Center is inviting nominations for two special awards that honor efforts in preserving local history, one for an individual and one for an organization. Winners will receive a trophy + speak at the annual meeting. Upper Michigan's Source

- ➤ GasBuddy data shows that Michigan gasoline prices have increased by 15.4 cents per gallon in the past week, now averaging $2.94 across stations. The cheapest station was listed at $2.25 and the most expensive at $4.11 — a difference of $1.86 per gallon. The Mining Journal

- ➤ The Laughing Whitefish Bird Alliance and Jenn Hill will host a discussion on green U.P. energy at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 in the Community Room at Peter White Public Library — the session will review plans for 375 megawatts of solar power and its impact on local energy costs. The Mining Journal

- ➤ Starting Feb. 1, travelers without a Real ID must enroll in TSA’s ConfirmID program for a $45 fee per flight. - ➤ Northern Michigan’s Dylan Kuehl was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week after he blocked eight shots in two road wins at Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State, helping his team secure close scores of 77-74 and 86-77. WZMQ 19
- ➤ The organizers of the 27th Noquemanon Ski Marathon in Marquette are calling for volunteers to help with race activities Saturday and Sunday.
