No. 1 Grand Valley State defeated NMU 78-66 Saturday at Vandament Arena after holding off a 16-2 surge in the fourth quarter; Nicole Kamin and Mackenzie Bisballe each scored 20 points as NMU, now 12-2, will face Michigan Tech on Jan.
8 at 5:30 p.m.
UP Luge Club will host public sliding sessions every Saturday until Mar.
7 at Lucy Hill; anyone aged five and older can pre-register for a two-hour slot and join the Fruit Cup race on Jan. 17 for $5.
The Upper Michigan Ice Racing Association held its first race this season in Gwinn on Saturday, featuring dirtbike and ORV racers (ages 4 to adults) competing for trophies or cash prizes.
Families will enjoy Saturday races until March 7 with admission at $10 per car.
On Saturday, Jan. 3, tubers enjoyed ample fresh powder on the Gladstone Ski Hill opening day after a three-year dry period, and the ski lift will open later this week + boosting winter recreation.
